Committees

COMMITTEES

Adult Education – determines adult educational programming and events including classes, lectures, discussion groups and other events.

Finance – prepares and reviews the finances of the congregation, including organizing the annual budget.

Building and Administration – together with the executive director handles all administrative matters of the congregation. This committee also supervises building and grounds maintenance, as well as overseeing the temple cemetery.

Education and Youth – oversight of all educational and youth programming. This includes the Early Childhood Programs, the Koven Religious School, USY, Kadima and Machar youth groups.

Fundraising – coordinates all congregation fundraising activities.

Governance – is tasked with identifying and mentoring potential lay leaders and with the creation and administration of lay leadership/board training. A primary part of this responsibility is supervision of the New Board Member Orientation program. It is also responsible for tasks which may be assigned from time to time by the President. The chairperson of this committee serves on the Executive Committee of the Temple.

Membership  – Develops messaging and marketing programs and events specifically designed to reach out to perspective members, welcome and integrate new members, and engage our existing members.

Programming – Directs all programming activities for the congregation, including the annual congregational retreat (Kallah). Also coordinates temple special events (e.g. Hanukkah, Sukkot, Purim, Seder, Yom HaShoah, Yom HaAtzmaut).

Policy – chaired by the Board Secretary charged with responsibility for making recommendations regarding general oversight of Temple policy matters. This includes the creation and maintenance of a Temple Policy Manual to be retained by the Board Secretary for reference by the Board of Directors. The Committee reviews existing policies for continued relevancy and makes recommendations to the Executive Committee for new policies. The Policy Committee counsels the President and the Executive Committee on any policy matters presented to the Committee for its consideration and study.

Religious Life Committee – works in partnership with clergy to set standards relating to worship and religious rituals, and assists in coordination of honors and duties for High Holiday services. Coordinates with the Gabbai.

Social Action – sponsors and facilitates tikkun olam, reflecting the social conscience of the Congregation. The activities of this committee include assistance to their members and their families in times of need (Kulanu),  sustainability efforts relating to the environment and conservations of resources (Green), and rites relating to death and mourning traditions (Chevra Kadisha) and Israel advocacy (Israel).
