Counting of the Omer--Family Mitzvah Project for the ARK

Looking for a way to visualize counting the0mer? Put one food or toiletry item in a basket each day. When finished, bring your donations to WSTHZ. A volunteer will take the donations to The ARK's Chicago office after Shavuot.

Donate to the Oak Park Food Pantry at WSTHZ

Bring your non-perishable food items and paper goods to the temple to help people in need. Leave your donations in the Tzedakah cart in the front foyer. Your donations are needed throughout the year and brighten the lives of our many people right here in our neighborhood!

Volunteer to Make Lunch or Dinner for the Homeless

Housing Forward works to end homelessness in Chicago’s near-west suburbs. Housing Forward offers emergency shelter for homeless men, women, and children at 12 rotating houses of worship every night through the cold weather months. For many years, our congregants have stepped up monthly (October – May) to make lunches and to cook and serve dinners to PADS guests.

2nd Friday of Each Month
Volunteers are needed on to help make bag lunches for PADS guests. This is also a great service project for a group such as Men’s Club, youth groups, scouts, or for a bar/bat mitzvah project. If you are interested in helping make bag lunches, whether as a one-time volunteer opportunity or on an ongoing basis, we’d love to have you. Contact project coordinator Laurie Myers at ljm1960@att.net.

1st Wednesday of Each Month
Volunteers are needed to make and serve dinner for the homeless at Grace Episcopal Church. Volunteers can make food and drop it off in the church kitchen and/or help serve the meal. Kids age 12 or older are welcome, and it’s a great experience for them. Contact project coordinator Clara Rubinstein, 708-366-7259, Rubinstein.clara@comcast.net or Carol Fred at  carolfred54@yahoo.com.

Koven Religious School is Collecting Pop Tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI).  These pop tabs are then recycled by United Scrap Metal, and the charity will then receive the market value of the recycled metal, plus a charitable match from United Scrap Metal. Last year, RMHC-CNI raised more than $40,000 from this program.
